State change (R1)

Three at once: the farmer finds the mended crack and chooses reverence over pruning (first human relationship with the tree); the system escalates from acknowledging one fix to routing him the fault queue of the whole valley; and the protagonist's self-understanding flips — he isn't a tree that fixed a pipe, he's infrastructure now.

Hook (R5)

He died on call at 3 a.m. — and the world just put him back on the rotation. The queue is real, it is long, and it is visible on screen: the audience leaves counting open tickets with him.

Script

RECAP BEAT — 0:00–0:08

Underground view from 002a: the channel's pulse, again. Then again — steady now, patient, like a cursor blinking.

VO: The pulse didn't stop. It's not talking. It's… waiting. I know this feeling. This is the feeling of a system that has found a working component.

THE FARMER FINDS IT — 0:08–0:35

Surface. The FARMER follows the damp line through his field on his knees, palm down, like reading braille. It leads him to the channel wall — to the crack — to the root wedged in it, glistening, obviously alive, obviously deliberate.

He sits back on his heels. Looks at the crack. Looks along the thirty meters of field to the scrappy little sapling. Back at the crack.

FARMER (quietly): …You?

He reaches out — the audience braces for the knife every farmer carries — and instead pulls the loose stones back around the root, packing mud to shelter it. Then, awkwardly, not sure why he's doing it, he stacks three flat stones beside the crack. A cairn. The world's smallest shrine, built by a man who would deny building a shrine.

VO: He's… reinforcing my patch. He's reinforcing my patch. Sir, I have never received a code review this kind in my entire—

FARMER (standing, gruff, to nobody): Tell no one.

THE QUEUE OPENS — 0:35–1:05

Underground view. The channel pulses once more — brighter — and then the pulse forks. New threads of light race outward along the water table, far past his roots, and return carrying pings. Each ping renders as a distant point of light and a line in the corner of the frame:

FAULT  pond, silted ................ 800 m E
FAULT  well, collapsing ............ 3.4 km N
FAULT  channel, sector K (cracked).. 1.7 km W

VO (dawning horror): No. No no no. I know what this is.

The list keeps growing. Six faults. Nine. Fourteen.

VO: One fix. I made one fix, unassigned, out of the goodness of my sap — and the system did what systems always do to the one person who closes a ticket.

The final line renders over his trunk, in the same script as the ADMIN label the audience hasn't seen from this branch — a half-familiar glyph:

HOOK — 1:05–1:25

Slow push-in on the tiny sapling. The farmer's cairn in the foreground. Fourteen points of light pulsing patiently on the horizon like a pager going off in every direction at once.

VO: I died at 3:07 a.m., on call, alone, fixing a broken system nobody else would touch.

Beat.

VO: I have been reincarnated… into an on-call rotation.

Beat. The nearest fault — the silted pond — pings again, slightly brighter. Impatient.

VO (resigned, almost fond): …Ticket one of fourteen.

SMASH TO BLACK.

Lineage notes

Parent: 002a. Anticipated grafts: the queue glyph is the same script as the 002c overlay — one system, two windows into it. The silted pond (ticket 2) sits beside where the 002b scavenger scavenges; a maintainer needs hands.

Taste-rule notes

• R1: farmer's stance changes (knife → cairn); tree's role changes (component → maintainer); the world's scale opens (14 faults).
• R2: still no villain — the antagonist is deferred maintenance itself, the most sympathetic monster there is.
• R3: the resolution of his horror is laughing at it — the cosmic joke of dying on call and being re-hired.
• R5: the queue is a hard state change with a built-in engine for episodes: every ticket is a story.
